Merit Badge Program

The UDHQ Merit Badge Program is part of the training experience at Urban Dogs HQ.

Think scouts for dogs — a fun way to recognise progress, experiences, and the relationship you build together with your dog.

How it works

Dogs can earn badges for all sorts of things. Some badges focus on practical skills and training foundations. Others celebrate real-world experiences, confidence-building, social adventures, or simply showing growth over time.

It’s all about:

  • Everyday life with dogs
  • Real-world skills
  • Building confidence
  • Trying new things
  • Celebrating progress
  • Having fun together

Rather than focusing on pass/fail outcomes, our merit badge program encourages dogs and humans to learn, explore, and grow together at their own pace.

Every UDHQ member receives access to their dog’s profile in the UDHQ Portal, where they can:

  • Track progress over time
  • Earn and collect badges (virtual and real!)
  • Record achievements and experiences
  • Celebrate milestones
  • Be part of the UDHQ community

Whether your dog is learning foundations, exploring the world, building calmness, or trying new adventures, the merit badge program helps make training engaging, rewarding, and fun.

Some of the badges

Foundations: Awarded to dogs who can confidently perform all core foundation skills in the class environment.

Cafe Dog: Awarded to dogs who have joined their humans on 20 different café or restaurant visits. This is about calm, adaptable behaviour in busy, real-world environments.

Smart Start: Only for dogs who began their UDHQ training journey at 12 weeks of age or younger. This start sets the foundation for a great life together.

Junior: Given to dogs attending or who have attended Junior classes.
