A safe path forward when group classes aren’t the right fit
Complex behaviours
Some dogs aren’t suited to group classes. This is often the case for dogs showing reactivity, anxiety, resource guarding, or other behaviours that need a quieter, individual approach.
Dogs with complex behavioural issues benefit from a multi-layered plan that takes their whole life into account — their environment, daily routines, stress levels, health, and history. Our psychologically informed approach means we support not just the dog, but the whole family.
Where we start
We begin with a private assessment that includes:
- A behavioural observation of your dog
- A detailed discussion about diet, sleep, exercise, enrichment, routines, health, home setup, and more
- Troubleshooting the specific challenges you’re experiencing.
The assessment is 1.5 hours and $300.
After the session, you’ll receive a written summary along with tailored recommendations and next steps.
What happens next
For some dogs and their owners, the assessment and behaviour plan are enough to create meaningful change.
Other cases require ongoing support, as true, lasting behavioural change for complex behaviours takes time. Follow-up sessions allow us to work through things step-by-step, with clear homework and guidance along the way. These sessions run for 45 minutes and are $120 each. Overall cost depends on how many sessions are needed and the individual situation.
If you’re unsure about what you need, get in touch and we can chat about whether we can help. We have a limited availability to take new complex cases.
Note that dogs with significant behavioural issues often require additional support from a vet or other health specialists. We can point you in the right direction to get this help if you don’t have it already, and can work alongside those specialists to support you and your dog.
What we don’t work with
We do not work with aggression cases, including dogs with a history of causing injury, severe bite incidents, or extreme behavioural issues. In these cases, we can refer you to trusted specialists who are better equipped to support you and your dog.
